Dr. Tanka Nath Sharma Holds a PhD Workforce Education & Development specialising in Leadership, Masters of Science in agricultural education and Bachelor of Science in Agricultural education and Mechanization from the Department of Workforce Education under College of Education, Southern Illinois University are most relevant higher educational degrees. He has more than 30 years’ experience of working in Nepal in the in the field of education and related programmes. Dr. Sharma has made substantial contribution in developing education and training policies at the national level. Dr. Sharma was constantly engaged as a national expert in TEVT policy development and developing innovative programs in TEVT from 2003 to 2012 in Nepal through ADB supported project, Swiss Government supported project and Finnish Government supported projects. TEVT policy 2004; TEVT policy 2007, TEVT and skill development policy detail of 2008; and TEVT policy of 2012 are outcomes of his professional contribution. Similarly, technical education in community schools, TEVT as a separate stream in secondary education, and soft skill associated TEVT were conceptualized by Dr. Sharma and are being implemented in Nepal. As a professor in education Dr. Sharma is engaged in teaching graduate courses, guiding M.Phil and Ph.D. research, participating in professional activities and has written several articles in education and training related areas. Dr. Sharma also served as the Dean of School of Education at Kathmandu University, School of Education.
Adult education and training, labour market information, competency-based education, career education, cooperative vocational education, school to work transition, program evaluation of work education are some of the relevant specialized courses taken during university education which are being practiced by Dr. Sharma. He constantly advocates for formalizing non-formal and informal learning in education system and have been successful in gaining attention of education policy makers in Nepal. Recently, Dr. Sharma also was nominated by the government of Nepal to serve as a member of High Level Education Commission and the report have been submitted to the prime Minister of Nepal.
